It’s been quite a year for Alex Milligan, and the good times just keep on rolling. Last October, life as he knew it forever changed with the birth of his first child, a son. A move out of a tiny city apartment and into his first home with his new family soon followed. After the dust of life settled, he got back to work with a new purpose and zeal. In July, he took the reins of the company as president of David Milligan Selections. And this October, a reflection of his renewed purpose appears; In the October 2018 issue of Wine Enthusiast, Alex is named a Top 40 Under 40 Tastemaker.
After working for 12 years with his father David, who founded the French-wine import company, David Milligan Selections, in 1995, Alex is extremely honored to be included among this incredible group of movers and shakers within the wine and beverage industry. He had a blast hobnobbing with his contemporaries at the New York City photo shoot and exclaiming the countless attributes of French wine.
“A lot of people are intimidated by French wine and they don’t need to be,” Alex told the magazine in a behind-the-scenes video interview. “There are a lot of delicious French wines that are approachable and affordable and should be enjoyed. French wine is for everyone!”
One myth he told the editors he’d like to break is that: Muscadet is NOT sweet. “It’s actually drier than Sancerre, and is excellent with oysters.” He happens to have a fantastic one from La Berriere.
As president of David Milligan Selections, Alex is always looking for new ways to bring French wine to a new generation of wine lovers. This summer, Houchart Rose was given its own room at the buzzy experiential wine event called Rose Mansion in New York City. In Cape Cod, he recently launched the perfect wine for hot summer days, called Glace Rose, a French wine designed to be served on ice. And in 2019, he will launch wine in cans.
With all this fun fanfare, there’s one important word that comes to mind: Thanks. Thanks to everyone out there reading this for your support of David Milligan Selections wines. To all our suppliers who make excellent wine and for the retail shops, restaurants, bars and friends who support us as we continue to grow and evolve. We could not do what we do without each and every one of you. It takes a village to polish off a double magnum.
