Jerome Quiot’s family has been working the vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape for over 250 years. His vineyards at Domaine du Vieux Lazaret, Domaine Duclaux and Les Combes D’Arnevel have a diverse terroir that has given him incredible insight into what is possible in this fascinating appellation.
Jerome has helped bring about modern winemaking techniques and with the help of his son Jean Baptiste, an agricultural engineer, they have created some of the most impressive and approachable wines available in the Southern Rhone and Provence.
However winemaking is just a part of what this impressive gentleman has accomplished.
He has been elected to many important positions and served as president of the Syndicates of Chateauneuf du Pape, the Rhone Valley Growers, INTERRHONE and the National Institute of Appellations Controlees. He currently is the president of the University of Suze La Rousse, an excellent University and the preeminent wine making school in the Rhone.
He has also been honored by the French Government with the Legion D’Honneur, the Ordre Nationale de Merite and the Ordre de Merite Agricole.
Outside Chateauneuf du Pape his family also owns the famous Chateau du Trignon in Gigondas where they make great wines from numerous appellations in the Southern Rhone. His family is also the proud owner of Domaine Houchart in Provence, which has been in his wife’s family for over 200 years. Located at the foot of Mount St Victoire, near Aix en Provence, their magnificent Rose has become one of the leading Rose’s in the US.
Jerome passed away at the end of 2018 but his wife Geneviève, his son Jean Baptiste and his daughter Florence all work at the Estates and help to create the wonderful wines of the Famille Quiot.
